Become an expert on ONE of the disability categories discussed in the power points, videos and create a webpage outlining key information on the disability. Be sure to follow the competencies outlined in the rubric.

Note: If you have never created a webpage, please follow the steps below:

  1. Login to Google
  2. Open your browser and go to the Google sites homepage
  3. Sign-in (with your google user name and password) to continue Google sites
  4. Fill-out the required fields on upper portion of ‘create account’ page
  5. Scroll down and fill in the section called ‘Get started with Google Sites’. When finished, click Create my Account
  6. Click the Create button on the Google Sites homepage
  7. Choose Design Template

NOTE: Please make sure to make the websites ‘public’ so that I can access them without needing a password.

(a) Describe the etiology  or cause of the disability and list and describe the general characteristics of the students with the disability

(b) Provide a list of at least 10 tips for teachers that work with students with the selected disability. Be sure to include how to best collaborate amongst all the professionals involved and the family.

(c) Illustrate at least 10 possible techniques/interventions you could incorporate into your teaching to benefit the students with the disability AND at least 10 specific accommodations (e.g. extended time, checklists, etc.). *Please view the PowerPoint titled: Accommodations and Modifications

(a)   Include a resources page with at least 25 national and/or local advocacy or support groups for the selected disability

Note: Conduct a search under: national support groups for (your selected disability category) and one for local support groups for (your selected disability category). You can include virtual resources as well (e.g. National Center for Learning Disabilities, Autism Speaks, Parent to Parent of Miami, etc.)
